1. APPLY FOR A SASKATCHEWAN TEACHING CERTIFICATE

To teach in Saskatchewan's publicly funded pre-kindergarten to Grade 12 education system, you must hold a Saskatchewan Teachers Certificate issued by the SPTRB. Certificates are also required to work in Registered Independent Schools and may be required to work in a First Nation operated school.

2. CONFIRMATION OF EMPLOYMENT

Applicants with employment pending the issuance of their teacher's certificate may upload confirmation of employment along with their teacher's certificate application. A general timeline for processing applications with employment is 5 business days. Exact processing times will depend on the complexity of the application and the eligibility of the applicant to be issued a Saskatchewan Teachers Certificate.

3. ANNUAL REGISTRATION

Certified Teachers working within a publicly funded school in Saskatchewan are required to maintain a valid Registration while employed in any position for which a Saskatchewan Teachers Certificate is required. Those employed by non-publicly funded schools must contact their employer to determine if a valid Registration is a condition of their employment.

4. TEMPORARY TEACHING PERMITS

Used in emergent situations where an employer is unable to recruit a Saskatchewan Certified Teacher to fill a vacant teaching position.

An employer must authorize a Temporary Teaching Permit application. Applicants may not initiate a Temporary Teaching Permit application without confirmation of a job offer from an employer.

5. REPLACEMENT CERTIFICATES

Teachers may obtain a replacement copy of their Saskatchewan Teachers Certificate. The 8.5"x11" certificate is suitable for framing and displaying in a classroom or office.

To order:
  ◊    Access the online Replacement Certificate Application by signing in to your SPTRB profile. 
  ◊    Select Educator Profile > Applications > Replacement Certificate > Apply Online. 
  ◊    Upload your Marriage Certificate / Change of name Certificate / Divorce Certificate if your name has changed. 
  ◊    Non-refundable and non-transferrable fee: $31.50 (includes GST). 


6. STATEMENT OF PROFESSIONAL STANDING

Teachers who hold a valid Saskatchewan Teachers Certificate, or were ever issued a Saskatchewan teacher's certificate, may be required to present a Statement of Professional Standing as part of their application for a teacher's certificate in another province or country.

      Access the online Statement of Professional Standing Application by signing into your SPTRB profile. 
  ◊    Select Educator Profile > Applications > Statement of Professional Standing > Apply Online. 
  ◊    A separate application and fee must be submitted for each certification authority that requires a Statement of Professional Standing. 
  ◊    The Statement of Professional Standing is mailed directly to the certification authority. 
  ◊    A Statement of Professional Standing is not issued for Temporary Teaching Permits. 
  ◊    Any certificate cancellation/suspension information will be noted on the Statement of Professional Standing. 
  ◊    Non-refundable and non-transferrable fee: $57.75 (includes GST). 


7. NAME CHANGE 

Teachers who require a name change for their record must send a copy of their name change document / Marriage Certificate / Change of Name Certificate to the SPTRB via email along with a statement of when the change took effect and their current full legal name.

8. CREDENTIAL UPDATES

Teachers who have credentials to update for their record must have their official transcript sent directly to the SPTRB from their issuing institution. A transcript is deemed official when it is received by the SPTRB directly from the institution via mail, email or MyCreds.
