Information for Temporary Teaching Permit Applicants

Individuals who are not qualified for a teaching certificate but have been determined by the employer to be the best possible candidate to fill a vacant position that typically requires a Saskatchewan teaching certificate, can submit the online Temporary Teaching Permit (TTP) application once they have received an offer of employment from an employer.

Do not submit a TTP application prior to having an offer of employment. Application fees are non-refundable and non-transferrable.

If you will be employed by more than one employer in the school year, in positions requiring a TTP, a separate application must be submitted to work with each employer.

TTP's are non-renewable. If an employer wishes to hire you in a future school year you must apply for a subsequent TTP once you have received a new offer of employment. All TTP's are issued with a validity date and an expiration date (within the current school year). These dates will be listed in the email you will receive when your TTP is issued.

TTP's are not teaching certificates. The SPTRB will not issue a Statement of Professional Standing (SPS) if an individual only holds a TTP.

Accepting the Role and Responsibilities associated with a Temporary Teaching Permit

Individuals who accept employment based on issuance of a TTP are agreeing to take on the role and responsibilities of a certified and registered teacher. As per the SPTRB Regulatory Bylaws section 5.06(4) they shall:

  (i) carry out the general functions and duties of teachers as set out in section 231 of The Education Act, 1995 as may be amended from time to time; and

(ii) be subject to the same standards of conduct as registered teachers; and

(iii) be subject to the same disciplinary procedures pertaining to registered teachers.

Upon issuance of a TTP, the permit holder will be manually added to the SPTRB Public Registry so that members of the public can verify that the individual holds a valid TTP for the current school year and view the specific employment conditions associated with the TTP held.
