Application Requirements for International Teacher Education Program Graduates (including teachers trained in the United States)
Step 1: Apply for a Credential Assessment Report
All post-secondary coursework completed outside of Canada must be assessed by Pathways to Teach Canada including official transcripts related to:
* Coursework associated with
your completed post-secondary Teacher Education Program
*
ALL
other post-secondary coursework completed including:
- courses not leading to a credential
- courses for a completed certificate
- coursed for a completed degree
- courses for a completed Master degree
- courses for a completed PhD
- if transfer credits were awarded by another institution, a transcript from the institution where those courses were completed must be provided

Step 2: Apply for a Language Proficiency Test (if required)
If your first language is not English or French, and you have never completed a post-secondary degree (or certificate) entirely in English or French, you will be required to complete a LCATP test. Failure to complete an LCATP (if required) prior to application to the SPTRB for certification will result in you being directed back to Pathways to Teach Canada to complete it. Only LCATP exams are accepted by the SPTRB (we do not accept TOEFL, IELTS or any other language proficiency examination).

* Pathways to Teach Canada is an independent organization and inquiries about their services should be referred to Pathways. SPTRB staff cannot advise an applicant on the Pathways to Teach Canada application process or status of an application.
Step 3: Apply to the SPTRB for Saskatchewan Teaching Certification
(ONLY AFTER your pathways to teach Canada assessment reports are completed)

1.
Online Application Form and Fee ($267.75 non-refundable and non-transferrable).
a. Applications will be deleted if payment is not received within 3 months.
2.
Gender identification selected from one of the following options: Male, Female, X (Unspecified, i.e. includes but not limited to Trans, Non-Binary, Two-Spirited, etc.), Choose not to disclose (i.e. You may identify with any of the gender options provided but do not want to disclose).
3.
Government Issued ID: Birth Certificate or Valid/Current Passport with full legal name.
4.
Marriage Certificate / Change of Name Certificate / Divorce Certificate (if your name has changed since birth).

Post-Secondary information must be entered in the application form. All transcripts and documentation will be provided in your Pathways to Teach Canada report to the SPTRB.
6.
Post-Secondary transcripts from all post-secondary schooling taken
in Canada
must be sent directly to the SPTRB from the issuing institution.
Applications will be reviewed by a Certification Analyst once these documents are received. The applicant will then receive a detailed email outlining the additional documents the certification analyst requires to complete the assessment. Do not send additional documents that have not been requested by the SPTRB.
Certificate Applications will remain active according to the following:
Submission of additional documents requested by the SPTRB.
Active for
1 year
from the date of the SPTRB request email.
Assessment was completed and additional coursework is required prior to certification.
Active for a
maximum of 4 years
from the date of the SPTRB coursework requirements were communicated by email.
Application fee not submitted.
Active for
3 months
from the application date.
If you are not able to meet the deadlines above, your application will be closed and deleted. The applicant will be required to resubmit a new application using their previously created SPTRB account to start the application process again (including application fee payment). All documents must be resubmitted with the new application
PLEASE NOTE:

If any of your documents, with the exception of transcripts, are not in English or French, you must provide the SPTRB with an English translation. You can request a copy of any document from the SPTRB to be sent to you to be translated. Translations must come from
one of the following sources:

An associate or certified member of the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Saskatchewan

A document translation service pre-approved by the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board;
♦
The consulate, high commission, or embassy (in Canada) of the country that issued your documents; or
♦
A Canadian embassy, consulate, or high commission in the country from which you emigrated.

Applications will be assessed once ALL required documents have been received. The timeline for processing international application, once all required documentation has been submitted, is up to 50 business days. Exact processing times will depend on the complexity of the application.
Review and Appeal Process
If you disagree with our assessment,
