Chief Operating Officer and Registrar

The Board of Directors of the Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board is inviting applications for the position of Chief Operating Officer and Registrar.

The Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB) is an independent regulator, established by The Registered Teachers Act, 2015. Their public registry of teachers is the largest of all regulated professions in Saskatchewan with over 18,000 registrants.

The Board of Directors is seeking a dynamic individual to lead the organization in fulfilling the mission of the organization: Serving the public interest by ensuring registered teachers meet professional standards for certification, conduct and competence.

The position calls for a highly skilled and experienced educational leader to lead the organization and support the Board’s governance responsibilities. Embodying the values of the organization (integrity, transparency, accountability, fairness, timelines), the COO/Registrar must be committed to meaningful engagement with members of the profession and the public, education partners, and Indigenous communities. The position requires the COO/Registrar to be a highly visible and engaged within the communities served.

The Board of Directors is inviting applications from candidates who:

    possess a graduate degree or the equivalent in education, business or public administration;
    qualify to be a registered teacher in the province of Saskatchewan; 
    have demonstrated exemplary, successful leadership in an educational organization with a minimum of five years of successful teaching experience in the province of Saskatchewan; 
    have a deep understanding of self-regulated professions generally and teacher regulation specifically, including teacher education and certification, professional conduct, and competence processes. 

The successful candidate will:

    report directly to the Board of Directors, providing executive and operational leadership; 
    lead the Board of Directors and agency staff in achieving the strategic priorities that the Board has established; 
    have sound knowledge of pre-K to 12 education in publicly funded provincial and federal (First Nations) schools and registered/qualified independent schools; 
    demonstrate commitment to diversity, equality, and inclusion based on sound understanding of and experience in reconciliation and to the Calls to Action articulated by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission; 
    demonstrate an open, approachable, and respectful leadership style with superior communication skills; 
    model collaborative relationship development with the teaching profession and community; 
    interface with multiple stakeholders, including First Nations and Metis authorities, school division officials, pre-K to 12 educational partners, universities, and related agencies.
